School boards are on the front lines of the culture war, and it's more important than ever for progressives to be involved in shaping the future of our education system. But let's be real, running for office can be overwhelming, especially if you're not familiar with the process.
Well, I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be that way. I've been there myself and I want to help others who are passionate about making a difference.
The first step in running for school board is to research the requirements for running in your state or school district. You will likely need to be a registered voter, live in the district you want to represent, and meet any other requirements set by your state or district. Once you have determined that you are eligible to run, it's time to start building a campaign.
This will involve developing a platform that aligns with your progressive values and reaching out to your community to gain support. Your platform should focus on issues that are important to progressives, such as increasing funding for public schools, reducing class sizes, and promoting inclusivity and diversity. You should also work to demonstrate your commitment to these issues through your past actions and experiences.
In terms of reaching out to your community, consider hosting a campaign kickoff event to introduce yourself and your platform, and use social media and other digital platforms to engage with voters. Additionally, door-to-door canvassing and phone banking are effective ways to connect with voters and build support for your campaign.
Now, as a progressive candidate, you may face opposition from more conservative members of your community. But by staying true to your values and building a strong, inclusive campaign, you can overcome these challenges and make a real impact on your community as a member of the school board.
Here's the thing, I want to help you make that impact. That's why we’ve created the Campaign Readiness Checklist. It will help you start your School Board campaign the right way.
